Be cordial to your partners and opponents.3. Refrain from giving instructions to anyone on the court unless they request them.4. Do not gun for the person at the net with fast and hard hitting especially in mixed doubles.5. Kindly pick up the balls for the server. It saves time and is just good etiquette.6. When you leave the court, please find the 3 balls you played with and leave them for the next group of players.Look forward to meeting old and new friends!

LAST WEEK'S RECAP
It was a popular idea this weekend for friends to come with a friend. There were many cross-overs from one day to another and many two timers who play two nights.

Friday
A player from Montville brought a friend from West Orange. Another player from Franklin Lakes brought a friend from Wayne and continued their girls' night out after tennis at an undisclosed location.

An unusually large number of NYC players attended. Two buddies from NYC came to play on a whim and were the last ones standing on the court at 1am! It was great seeing these former high school buddies hanging out. Other players from NYC would also be playing twice this weekend.

Two 15-year-olds and a 12 and 1/2 year-old from the Livingston and Wayne area attended the party. The kids were looking mighty fine, playing great tennis and entertaining the adults who were watching during their off hour. In place of the 15 yo's coach this week were some fine adult players for each hour, who seemed to enjoy their time with them.

Other newcomers include players from Verona and Newark. They all seemed to enjoy their first time, judging from the smiles and their laid back style in the lounge, not sure if it was from exhaustion after 3-4 hours of tennis.

Saturday
A player from Summit was so excited to return with a friend, after his first visit last week. He later called saying - It's Valentine's Day. I asked if he brought his wife flowers this morning. He replied - Yes, but she still wants to spend time with me. He sounded very sad and disappointed but he did a good thing.

A player from NYC introduced a couple to our party. The couple met other couples, also from NYC and from Yonkers. They all had a nice time playing tennis and meeting different people. There were other date couples as well, one from Bardonia.

A player from Montville brought a USTA teammate from North Arlington to practice playing as partners for their upcoming season. They are not used to staying up and playing tennis so late.

The Riverdale players were back for some good fun and brought along their former pro-level player from Astoria. Isn't tennis such a great sport to keep friends in touch. Their good USTA friend from Rahwah must have also heard about it that she joined us as well. She put on a nice show, as if we were watching Serena play at the Binghamton Open!

Sunday
While our Aaron Krickstein former hitting partner is nearing the end of her 2-month coast guard duty at McMurdo Station, on the edge of the continent at the base of Mt Erebus, Antartica, her son attended the party before driving over an hour home to Schenectady. It was great seeing him, reminding us of his wonderful and well-rounded mom!

A Sunday regular from Hackensack had been busy on business trips but came back with his buddy from Livingston. He was looking forward to playing with the Human Backboards, only half a Backboard was there, which is better than no Backboard. The other Half was away with his wife for Valentine's.

One Sunday regular from North Haledon signed up, specifying that he - Intends to play at least 4 hours. Two other players signed up for 5 hours. The two did play 5 hours, while many played 4 hours - Kudos to them all for playing marathon tennis!

Please call or email me to make reservations.

Look forward to meeting old and new friends!

LAST WEEK'S RECAP
Friday It was another record weekend with old and new friends escaping the winter doldrums. This group rivals the Saturday night gang with their continuous play until the wee hours of the morning. Many vowed to be back for more of the same. Our baker/player lady again brought delicious homemade treats for all to delight in. Saturday
Our Friday night dynamic duo pulled a switch on us and joined their USTA teammates for practice on Saturday. Others who had been missing for a while came out and joined us, along with many newcomers from the NY area. The Hoboken/Piscatway buddies attended for the second week in a row. The Hoboken player had such a great time, gelling immediately with Hippy Kris and a couple acquaintances from Yonkers. She was grinning from ear to ear the whole hour. Our actuary player from Yonkers is back! Tonight was an impromptu convention for doctors from Guttenberg, Weekhawken and Riverdale (NY). However, their medical expertise was not needed.
Saturday
This week's two timers include a retired salesman from Leonia (played Friday and today), a doctor from Weekhawken (played Saturday and today) and a flooring expert. It was a big crowd and just a lot of fun for all.
Please call or email me to make reservations.

Look forward to meeting old and new friends!

Tennis in NYC is hard

I went back to Pittsburgh for the holidays to see my family and got the chance to play tennis with my brother. On the way to the court it occurred to me how easy it is to locate and schedule a tennis court there compared to NYC. Making reservations for a public court in PGH can be made on the telephone vs. NYC where you have to be physically present to reserve the court. Indoor tennis in PGH costs about a third of the price of courts in the NYC area.

One of the other hard parts about playing tennis in NYC is finding a reliable tennis partner. Despite there being over 6 million people in the city it's still hard to find a tennis partner. People's schedules change constantly.

Finally, getting to the courts in NYC can time consuming. Most people have to take the train to get to a court. Going from mid-town to Central Park, Riverside Park, Long Island can take longer than one might expect.
